A Darlington transistor is a pair of bipolar junction transistors (BJTs) connected together to function as a single, high-gain amplifier. The configuration is designed to provide very high current gain (β) by multiplying the gain of each individual transistor, making it especially useful in low-input-current switching and amplification applications.
